The first bell has rung, the hallways are buzzing, and the sound of the marching band is drifting across the football field. For cheer coaches, that can only mean one thing — game day season is officially here!
After weeks (or months!) of planning, camps, and tryouts, we finally get to see our athletes shine under the Friday night lights. This time of year is electric — the stands are full, the air is crisp, and our teams get to show off all the hard work they’ve been putting in. But it’s also one of the busiest seasons we’ll face as coaches, balancing school schedules, practices, games, and community events.
Game Day Mindset
As the season kicks off, your role as a coach is about more than stunts and cheers — it’s about setting the tone for your entire squad. The energy you bring will set the standard for your athletes. Show up excited, prepared, and ready to adapt to whatever the night brings. Whether it’s a sudden rainstorm or an unexpected schedule change, flexibility will be your best friend.
Staying Organized (Without Losing Your Mind)
Between halftime routines, pep rallies, and spirit week events, the game day checklist can feel never-ending. This is where having a solid system, like my Cheer Coach Planner, can save your sanity. Keep track of music, formations, uniform notes, and fundraiser reminders in one place so nothing slips through the cracks. The more prepared you are, the more you can enjoy the night with your team.
Don’t Forget the Fun
It’s easy to get caught up in logistics, but remember, these are the moments your athletes will remember forever. Encourage them to take in the crowd, celebrate the little wins, and show their school pride. When you create a positive, supportive sideline environment, you’re building team spirit that lasts long after the final whistle.
Here’s to a season full of sharp motions, loud voices, and unforgettable memories. Let’s make this one the best yet, coaches! 🎀 Coach Julie
