2-Hour Alumni Practice Plan for Homecoming Game Day
I got you, Coach 🤍 here's a ready-to-run system for your alumni night. This is built for mixed skill levels, limited time, and maximum sideline fun without safety stress.
2-Hour Practice Plan
Goal: Re-teach, safety screen, and set your Game Day rotations.
0:00 - 0:15 — Welcome + Warm-Up (No skipping this)
Sign-in & waiver check — pull your Google Forms list
Quick introductions, years cheered, injuries/limitations
Dynamic warm-up: jog, high knees, arm circles, lunges
Stunt-specific: wrist/ankle rolls, hollow body holds, squeeze drills
0:15 - 0:35 — Sideline Refresher
Review 5-6 core chants/crowd cheers you’ll actually use Friday
Teach motions clean-first, then add voice + sharpness
Run with music/band cues if you have them
0:35 - 1:00 — Skills Screening (Mixed Level Stations)Split into 3 groups, rotate every 8 min:
Motions/Jumps: Focus on safety, not height
Tumbling: Only what they currently have — no new skills. Spot check, clear space
Stunting: Ground-level squeeze + load-in technique. NO full-ups day-of for alumni unless they still cheer/train
Rule for alumni: If they can't show it controlled on day 1, they don't do it on game day.
1:00 - 1:35 — Stunt Safety Build
Group by size + experience, not by graduation year
Pre-assigned: Main base, secondary, back, flyer (ask who wants to fly)
Sequence: Thigh stand > prep > extension ONLY if rock-solid. Keep cradles to prep level if needed
Run your stunt safety checklist: jewelry off, nails, mats, bases communicating, backspot in place
5-min water + injury check
1:35 - 1:55 — Game Day Rotation Rehearsal
Walk the sideline: where they enter, where bags go, where they stand for 1st/2nd half
Practice 2-minute rotation: A-group cheers, B-group rests/hydrates/crowd interacts
Run your Homecoming intro + alma mater + halftime fan moment
1:55 - 2:00 — Wrap
Announce call time, uniform (alumni shirts + black bottoms), what to bring
Send group photo + quick thank you text with parking/game day info
Game Day Checklist
For You:
Printed roster + emergency contacts from Forms
Rotation sheet on clipboard + megaphone
First aid, athletic tape, extra hair ties/bobby pins, deodorant wipes
Music/chant list for announcer
Alumni gifts/stickers/shirts laid out
Designated current cheer captain as alumni buddy
For Alumni:
Arrive 60 min before kickoff — check in, warm up as team
No jewelry, hair up, supportive shoes
Rotation: 3 songs on / 2 songs off to avoid burnout
Stunts: Pre-assigned groups only, mats if possible, no co-ed toss unless insured/current
Photo op at end of 1st quarter + recognition at halftime
Pro tip to save you time: Make one simple Canva sheet — Left side: Practice Groups, Right side: Game Day Rotation A/B/C. Print 10 copies and reuse it on the sideline. Keeps you from answering the same "when do I go in?" question all night.
Feel free to message me anytime and let me know how your alumni night goes! I would love to hear from you.
Cheerfully,
Coach Julie 🎀
